The Ekiti State Police Command has denied recognising any faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the authentic leadership of the party in the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, described as false and misleading reports claiming that the Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, recognised Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo as the authentic ADC chairman in Ekiti State.

The police explained that both factions, led by Omolayo and Dr. Bamidele Ekunola, were invited after submitting separate petitions concerning the party’s leadership and the alleged occupation of its secretariat.

According to the Command, the two groups met with the Commissioner on August 31, during which both sides were advised to maintain peace and pursue legal redress where necessary.

The Police Command stressed that the meeting was aimed at preventing a breakdown of law and order and did not amount to recognising either faction as the legitimate leadership of the ADC in Ekiti State.

The Command urged members of the public to disregard reports suggesting otherwise.
