OYEBANJI TENDERS INEC DOCUMENTS, CLOSES DEFENCE AT ELECTION TRIBUNAL
October 28, 2026
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has tendered key electoral documents from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in defence of his re-election in the June 20 governorship poll.
The documents, including Forms EC8D and EC8E, contain collated results and the official declaration of the election outcome. The tribunal admitted them as exhibits without objection from the parties.
Oyebanji, through his lead counsel, Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, subsequently closed his defence, informing the tribunal that the governor would not call additional witnesses after reviewing the petitioners’ evidence and the cross-examination of their witnesses.
INEC also tendered documents supporting its conduct and declaration of the election results before closing its cases in the separate petitions.
The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Abubakar Idris Kutigi, directed all parties to file and exchange their written addresses and replies.
The tribunal adjourned proceedings until November 20, 2026, for the adoption of the written addresses. The petitions were filed by the Social Democratic Party and the Action Alliance, challenging Oyebanji’s victory.
