The Federal Government has fixed December 2028 as the deadline for Nigeria's final transition from analogue to digital television broadcasting. The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Charles Ebuebu, announced the timeline during an interview in Abuja, describing it as the country's final analogue switch-off.

Ebuebu explained that the current phase is only the beginning of the digital transition, with future phases expected to cover pay television services, studio development and designated production centres for content creators. He also revealed that audience measurement is already progressing, with a successful pilot conducted in about 7,000 homes in Lagos and implementation now underway in Abuja.

The NBC boss said the commission will consult key stakeholders before rolling out the remaining phases of the transition. He added that switching off analogue broadcasting will free up valuable radio spectrum for sectors such as telecommunications, financial services and digital applications, noting that the spectrum is estimated to be worth more than 50 billion dollars, pending a professional valuation.
