The Federal Government has directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to submit their personnel budget proposals for the 2027 fiscal year by September 18, 2026.

The directive is contained in a budget call circular issued by the Budget Office of the Federation and signed by its Director-General, Tanimu Yakubu.

The Federal Government plans to present the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly in September as part of efforts to return the country’s budget cycle to a more timely schedule.

According to the Budget Office, the draft 2027–2029 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper was concluded in July to support the early presentation of the budget proposal.

The circular also introduced tighter controls on budget submissions, requiring MDAs to provide the laws establishing them alongside their proposals.

Government agencies were further directed to validate their personnel records against official government payroll systems.

The Budget Office warned that unauthorised salary provisions and failure to meet the September 18 deadline could attract sanctions.

The latest directive is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen budget planning, improve payroll accuracy and ensure greater accountability in the management of public funds.
