OKONJO-IWEALA URGES NIGERIA TO FOCUS ON BUDGET EXECUTION, INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE
August 04, 2026
Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has urged Nigeria to prioritise effective budget execution and infrastructure maintenance over increased budgetary allocations. She said sustainable development depends on efficient implementation rather than spending alone.
Speaking at the 2026 Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, Okonjo-Iweala stressed the need for a stronger maintenance culture, better ports, improved digital infrastructure and lower trade costs to boost the country's competitiveness. She noted that successful execution requires focus and prioritisation.
The former Finance Minister also commended ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to stabilise the exchange rate and curb inflation, expressing optimism that sustained reforms would improve the country's macroeconomic outlook and benefit states.
