OYEBANJI WARNS OPPOSITION AGAINST FAKE NEWS AHEAD OF EKITI GOVERNORSHIP POLL
June 03, 2026
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has cautioned opposition parties in the state against the spread of fake news as the June 20 governorship election approaches. He warned that the dissemination of false information for political advantage could create unnecessary tension and undermine peace in the state.
The governor made the remarks on Tuesday in Ado Ekiti during an engagement with artisans and private sector associations under the umbrella of the Congress of Artisans and Private Sectors. He urged residents and political actors to maintain peace before, during, and after the election, stressing that all stakeholders share a common interest in the progress and stability of Ekiti State.
Oyebanji also condemned what he described as deliberate misinformation about insecurity in the state, including reports alleging that a commercial bus was hijacked and its passengers kidnapped. He said such claims were false and irresponsible, adding that the use of fake news for political purposes was unacceptable and should be discouraged by all well-meaning citizens.
