Residents of the Bamigboye Area in Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti, staged a peaceful protest this morning, completely barricading the busy Ikere-Ekiti-Ado-Ekiti Road. The demonstration disrupted socio-economic activities and left numerous motorists stranded. The locals took action following a succession of fatal accidents that claimed four lives within just one week on a severely degraded section of the highway near the Ureje Bridge.

According to community members, the protest was triggered by the latest tragic incident, which resulted in the immediate death of a woman and a commercial motorcyclist. Speaking with an Ayoba FM correspondent, a resident accused the contractor handling the road rehabilitation and the bridge construction of absolute nonchalance, stating that the project has dragged on for nearly three years without meaningful progress. This persistent neglect has turned the critical corridor into a major death trap.

The protesters are issuing an urgent appeal to the Ekiti State Government to intervene swiftly. They are demanding immediate repairs to the failed segments of the road and the expedited completion of the Ureje Bridge infrastructure to avert recurring crashes and prevent any further loss of life.
