REPS MINORITY CAUCUS URGES TINUBU TO RELEASE $5BN FROM RESERVES FOR SECURITY
August 28, 2026
The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to release $5 billion from Nigeria’s external reserves for an emergency security intervention to tackle the worsening killings, terrorism, banditry and mass abductions in Northern Nigeria.
The lawmakers urged the Federal Government to deploy overwhelming military force against terrorist and bandit hideouts while cutting off their movement, supply routes and communication networks.
The caucus said the proposed funding would provide an extraordinary boost to the nation’s security campaign, stressing that protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians should remain the government’s top priority.
The lawmakers also called for stronger intelligence gathering and improved coordination among security agencies to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among communities affected by insecurity.
They maintained that urgent and decisive action was needed to address the worsening security situation and protect citizens across the affected regions.
