Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Aare Afe Babalola, has urged university graduates to consider agriculture as a career option to help address youth unemployment in Nigeria.

Babalola made the call at the 2026 Afe Babalola Agricultural Expo in Ado-Ekiti.

The legal icon said the increasing number of graduates competing for limited white-collar jobs makes it necessary for young Nigerians to explore other sectors, particularly agriculture.

He stressed the need for greater adoption of modern farming methods and equipment to improve productivity and encourage more young people to take up farming.

At the event, farmers from across Ekiti State were recognised for their contributions to agriculture, while youths and women received training and support in agricultural activities.

Babalola also announced plans to establish an Ekiti Farmers’ House to provide farmers with access to modern agricultural equipment at affordable rates.
